LAKE GEORGE AUG 2008August 15, 2008
LAKE GEORGE IS DOWN ONE FOOT, 91 DEGREES & CLEAR BY CLAYTON BATTS
Bass fishing is far and the fish are suspended in the deep timber and humps. The active fish are feeding at daylight and dusk. These early and late fish are short lived but have been falling for numerous top water offerings. The bigger fish have been biting a Spro Bronzeye frog or a black Picasso buzz bait, with numbers of smaller fish biting a bone colored Pop R or Spro Hydro Pop. These fish have been positioned on the outside grass lines leading back into the smaller main lake pockets. Points within the grass lines or any isolated clumps of grass have been producing the better fish. When the sun starts to peak over the tree line its time to head out to the famous Lake Eufaula ledges. The recent afternoon showers have helped the bite up North by putting more oxygen, color and current in the water. Try fishing the deeper outside river bend ledges in the 20-25 foot range on the North end of the lake. Most of the fish have been falling for deep crank baits, such as a Mann's 20+ in gray ghost or Fat Free Shads in Citrus Shad, especially when they are moving water. When the fish are not active try ripping a Big Bite Baits Kriet Tail Worm in plum apple or green pumpkin or a ¾ ounce green pumpkin chartreuse tiger Picasso football jig off of the deeper ledges. There are also fish being caught off of the deeper man made brush piles and rocky shell ledges. The best brush piles and shell ledges have been in the 15-20 ft range. Let the bait soak when you hit any brush or shells. These fish have been a little sluggish and you almost have to force feed them with a Big Bite Kriet tail worm or get a reaction strike with a Stanford Lures crank bait or 1 oz. Picasso Spinnerbait. Most of the recent tournaments have been won on the deep timber along the river ledges. Try throwing reaction type baits through the timber and rip it off the ledge. You will loose a lot of baits if you’re not careful but it is well worth it at the end of the day. There has also been some fish coming up and schooling throughout the day around the cause way and out on the deeper flats, so always \\\\keep a Spro Dawg 100 tied on or a Big Bite Baits jerk minnow.
