GUNTERSVILLE JULY 2008 CAPT GERRY

One thing about summertime fishing is it’s generally feast or famine and this past week seemed to have an individual feast or famine on a daily bases. One day the bass were stacked and feeding and you caught them real good or they were stubborn and hard to find. I believe the north wind had a lot to do with the daily changes, but none-the-less you either caught them good or you struggled especially on the top water bite.

I expected the mid day bite to be tough, and it was but the morning or late evening bite changed with the wind. We had days of 30 or more and a few with 10 fish or less.

We’ve seen schooling fish most of the week but those fish are small and every third cast is a small striper bite. If you want some action though the jump fishing on the schooling fish are providing plenty of it.

I fished mainly up river this week, fishing 6 to 12 feet of water over grass. The best bites came on a Mister Twister Tubo or a Tight Line Jig flipping the grass edges, the numbers came on top water lures. The fall is setting up to be a great one; the spawn was again for the second year in a row just super; there’s a tremendous amount of bait and a lot of small fish showing up all over the lake.
