WFF recently opened a new boat landing in St. Clair County on the Neely Henry Reservoir. The new facility is located on the west side of Canoe Creek and can be accessed off Byrd Lane east of Greensport Road approximately two miles south of Highway 411 near Rainbow City.
The facility features a 60-foot-wide launching slab, paved parking lot for 80 truck and trailer rigs, two fixed aluminum access piers, and two 100-foot floating aluminum access piers. Additionally, the new facility has security lighting and is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The new boat landing was needed to meet the growing demand for additional access to Lake Neely Henry. WFF secured the property from St. Clair County in 2015, and construction began in the winter of 2016. Now complete, the new landing is large enough to accommodate most local and regional fishing tournaments. St. Clair County will handle routine maintenance of the facility.
The project was funded by the Sportfish Restoration Program, which is supported through excise taxes on the sale of outboard motor fuel, fishing equipment, and the sale of state fishing licenses.
