Mark Whitlock(founder) started Mark’s Outdoors back in 1980. It started as just a small fishing store with some clothing and a few other odds and ends. Mark was running the store with his father Mo. Everyone that came in to the store would always recognized the old man in the corner telling stories to every kid that walked in and putting a smile on everyones face. It was a true “Mom and Pop” store or in this case, father and son. Mark Whitlock was a icon in the hunting and fishing world regarding business and wildlife conservation. He was not afraid to push the envelope and change the industry. I still hear stories to this day about customers walking out the store with a brand new firearm when they came in for a hunting license. Mark Whitlock knew how to wheel and deal and make people happy all at once! He is one of the few people that I know that truly loved what he did. But he was more than just a great business man. He would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need and reach out a helping hand.
Unfortunately Mark was diagnosed with cancer back in 2010 and succumbed to the sickness in 2012. It was a loss for us all and the industry. He will be sorely missed by friends and family. But we know what he would want us to do. So we are keeping Mark’s Outdoors doors open and improving! That is what he would have wanted us to do! So come on in the store and hang out with us! We have coffee in the morning and snacks to keep you full while you look around, talk and tell stories to one another.
We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and business! Everyone at Mark’s thanks you and I do especially. You do not understand how happy I am when I see the store doing well and everyone(customers and staff) enjoying their stay. We will keep Mark’s Outdoors going and continue to improve ourselves!
Thank You for your time!
God Bless, Mark Whitlock Jr.
